Netflix says: Ambitious young record company intern Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) will let nothing get in the way of his planned rise to the top in the music business -- not even the unruly rock star (Russell Brand) he must escort to Los Angeles for the start of his anniversary concert. Doing whatever it takes to get the rocker from Point A to Point B, Aaron encounters all manners of mishaps in this comedy directed by Nicholas Stoller and produced by Judd Apatow.
Matt says: I went in to this with low expectations. I liked “Saving Sarah Marshall” enough, but it always felt like just another movie from the Apatow school of film. Jokes were hit and miss and it was overflowing with sentimentality. “Get Him to the Greek” exceeded my expectations. It’s truly a funny film. Hill and Brand play great off of each other. The movie flows with barely any lulls and the sentimentality is enough to be realistic without being sappy. The pacing is off, but in a good way; It captures the rock ‘n roll lifestyle. It has raunch, but never crosses the line to flat out bad taste. Overall, a good flick to get some solid laughs from. 4 stars.
Marc says: Jonah Hill’s character gets way outside his comfort zone escorting the spoiled rockstar from Forgetting Sarah Marshall to a concert in L.A. Moves from one surreal situation to the next seamlessly and in a very funny fashion throughout. Characters are well drawn, with Sean Combs supporting performance being the best and funniest part of the movie. It’s an interesting development, since the character of Aldous Snow himself was the best and funniest part of Sarah Marshall. Question: Is it wrong that I hated Jonah Hill’s girlfriend in this? She seemed like she was written as a totally unreasonable and self-absorbed bitch. That we’re expected to feel glad that he patches things up with her at the end struck me as wrong. That relationship had more baggage than Southwest. Nevertheless, chalk up another 4 star comedy for Apatow.
