Netflix says: Will Smith stars as Hancock, a down-and-out superhero who's forced to employ a PR expert (Jason Bateman) to help repair his image when the public grows weary of all the damage he's inflicted during his lifesaving heroics. The agent's idea of imprisoning the antihero to make the world miss him proves successful, but will Hancock stick to his new sense of purpose or slip back into old habits? Charlize Theron co-stars in Peter Berg's action-comedy.
Marc says: Mediocre hack Peter Berg squanders the under-utilized premise of a “down on his luck” superhero by abandoning the entire concept about one hour in. Although the first half squeezes out some seldom few laughs, it’s all downhill once the plot revelations start rolling in. Will Smith exudes screen charisma throughout, but it’s nowhere near enough to save the proceedings from Theron’s teary-eyed overacting and a muddled script. Grade D.
