Netflix says: Used-car salesman Rudy Russo (Kurt Russell) needs money to run for State Senate. His boss, Luke (Jack Warden), loans him the cash, but then falls victim to an "accident" orchestrated by his brother Roy (Jack Warden again), who runs the car lot across the street and is scheming to take over Luke's shop. After Luke disappears, it's all-out war between the competing car shops, as Rudy and his friends fight to keep Roy from taking Luke's property.
Matt says: Ah, Kurt Russell, can you do no wrong? I missed this Spielberg produced/Zemeckis directed cult classic through my youth and had always heard that it was up there with “Caddyshack”, “Porky’s”, and other late 70s/early 80s classic comedies. I wouldn’t put it up there with those, but it wasn’t bad. Like most 80s comedies, it falls into the slobs vs. snobs genre with plenty of cars being wrecked and a few boob shots for good measure. Russell plays the stereotypical fast talking scumbag used car salesman with vigor. You’ll see Lenny and Squiggy and a few of the classic SCTV line-up in bit roles. It ain’t high art, but Russell makes anything better than it is. 3 stars.
This movie has nice plot and does an interesting job of poking around car shops and used cars. It's a down-and-dirty film that isn't afraid to stick out some crazy ideas. I'd love to watch it all over again.
