Netflix says: Special Agent Strahm is long gone, and Det. Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) is now the heir to John Jigsaw's (Tobin Bell) terrifying legacy. FBI Agent Erickson (Mark Rolston) is now hot on his trail, but Hoffman is about to reveal Jigsaw's grand plot. Kevin Greutert directs this next installment of the smash horror dynasty, while Betsy Russell, Peter Outerbridge, Tanedra Howard and Shawnee Smith co-star.
Matt says: The mythos of the Saw movies just keeps getting deeper and you know what? I don’t give a shit. I just want to see people get tortured in Rube Goldberg machines. Even that was unsatisfactory in this one. Machines and themes are repeated (a pound of flesh ring a bell? how about the trap-jaw machine?) and the main storyline seems like a distraction. It’s almost as if it was two movies, one about the dude getting tortured and one a drama (that really stretches the connections of the characters) about a dead psychopath; both not good at all. Jigsaw has been dead for 3 movies now and he’s more active than ever. How is that possible? He must’ve had better foresight than Nostradamus. His wife starts talking to his ghost in this one, so we’re one step away from a Jason-esque immaculate reincarnation. whoopee. 2 stars.
